Man involved in fatal police crash to be sentenced

PAINESVILLE -- A man faces sentencing today on charges connected to a fatal crash involving a Willoughby police officer.

Scott Leland will learn his punishment in court at 9 a.m. for the crash last year on Sept. 21.

That night, officer Jason Gresko was responding to a call when Leland, who was driving a pickup truck, pulled in front of the cruiser on Harmony Lane.

When Gresko swerved to avoid a collision, the cruiser slammed into a tree.

Gresko later died at a nearby hospital.

Last December, authorities said Leland had a blood-alcohol level of .14 at the time of the crash.
