ERIE TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A four-vehicle Labor Day crash killed two people injured eight others outside of a National Guard training facility.
The Sandusky Post of the Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 4:49 p.m. Monday on State Route 2 when the eastbound driver of a 2009 Honda Accord failed to yield while making a left turn into Camp Perry.
The Accord was then struck by an oncoming 1999 Dodge Caravan. As a result, two other vehicles waiting at the stop sign at Camp Perry, were struck by the Dodge Caravan.
The pair inside the Honda Accord, 78-year-old Jerald Zimmer and 74-year-old Rosanne Zimmer, both of Fremont, died as a result of the crash.
The six people inside the Dodge Caravan, all of Toledo, each sustained injuries. The driver, a 34-year-old woman, was flown to an area hospital. A 32-year-old passenger in that vehicle suffered incapacitating injuries, said highway patrol. The others -- ages 7, 10, 13 and 15 -- were all treated and released at a nearby hospital.
The 56-year-old Hilliard woman who was driving the third vehicle, a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic, sustained incapacitating injuries. Her passenger, a 54-year-old man, had minor injuries and was not treated.
The three people inside the fourth vehicle -- a 1994 Lexus -- were unharmed.
No citations have been issued.
Investigators say it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were involved.
