KENT -- When is the last time you saw gas prices in Northeast Ohio for less than $3 per gallon?

Drivers were filling up early Monday morning for $2.99 per gallon of regular gasoline at three local stations.

- Marathon at Route 43 and Holiday Drive in Kent.

- BP at Route 43 near Holiday Drive in Kent.

- Speedway at Route 43 near I-76 in Brimfield.

A Marathon gas station in southern Summit County at Massillon Road and Route 224 was spotted at $2.98 per gallon at 7 a.m. That location had been selling gas at $3.01 per gallon just three hours earlier.

That price is 23 cents below the statewide average and 36 cents below the national average.

The statewide average has fallen 11 cents since last Monday -- and 54 cents less than a year ago.

Oil analysts say lower fuel prices are expected to continue.
