Akron: Two officers hurt in head-on crash

AKRON -- Two police officers were hurt in a head-on crash early Friday morning while responding to a call.

Authorities say the accident happened around 5:30 a.m. when the cruiser collided with a minivan on East Avenue at Iona.

The officers -- one male and one female -- were both taken to nearby hospitals with unknown injuries.

The driver and a passenger in the minivan also sustained undisclosed injuries.

As a result of the accident, a three-block area is closed.

All roads are expected to reopen by 9:30 a.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
