Cuyahoga County Sheriff: Ariel Castro transferred to LCI

CLEVELAND -- Ariel Castro left the Justice Center in a van Friday afternoon, headed to the Lorain Correctional Institution.

The transfer comes one day after Castro was sentenced to life without parole plus 1,000 years in prison for abducting three women and holding them captive in his Seymour Avenue home for a decade.

For Michelle Knight, Gina DeJesus and Amanda Berry, they will now try to move on with their lives.

On Friday, Michelle Knight visited the home on Seymour Avenue where she was held captive for over a decade. She went to see the home where she was kept one final time.

A spokeswoman for Ohio's prisons department says Ariel Castro won't go into general population once he enters the state's prison system because of his high-profile case and for his own protection.

Castro will undergo medical and mental health evaluations after arriving in prison.

The three women, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, were rescued on May 6 after Berry broke out of the home and ran for help.

Castro pleaded guilty to more than 900 charges of rape, kidnapping and aggravated murder on July 26 as part of a plea agreement that spared him the possibility of the death penalty.
