CLEVELAND -- A Cuyahoga County Jail corrections officer has been indicted for bribery, according to a news release from county Executive Ed FitzGerald.

Tim Thomas is accused of accepting bribes in return for doing favors.

He faces 10 counts of bribery, two counts of obstructing justice and one county each of tampering with records and falsification. He was arrested shortly after the indictment, which was announced Thursday.

"Improper conduct by Cuyahoga County corrections officer Tim Thomas was brought to our attention approximately one month ago," Sheriff Frank Bova said. "Upon discovery, we immediately implemented an internal, undercover investigation led by sheriff's deputies in conjunction with our partners in the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office and the Cleveland Police Department."

According to FitzGerald, "Illegal activity and corruption will be not tolerated in Cuyahoga County government. As a course of action, my administration has and will continue to investigate and eliminate any instances of public corruption. I commend Sheriff Frank Bova and his Deputies for skillfully and quickly leading this investigation to an arrest."

He will be arraigned August 27.
