HAMPTON, Tenn. -- Imprisoned for life.
Ariel Castro, the man who admitted to more than 900 counts in the kidnapping case of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, will never be a free man again.
During his Thursday sentencing hearing, Castro stood before the court and declared that he's not a monster as he has been portrayed.
CNN exclusively spoke with Fern Gentry, Amanda Berry's grandmother in Tennessee, to hear her thoughts on Castro's sentencing.

"He's a liar," Gentry says. "He's a liar. I didn't believe any of that because if the girls could have got out they would have got out. His twisted mind wouldn't let them go."
Gentry says she won't forgive Castro for what he's done.
"He put me, my son and all of her family in chaos for 10 long years and held them against their will and then go to church and try to hide his meanness. We always had a broken heart. We cried over her and never think we would see her again. I hate this man, I can't help it."

On the flip side, Gentry gushed praise for Knight.
"She is very special to my heart and I love her to death," Gentry says in the CNN interview. "I want her to know there is love still yet in this world. There's a lot of good people and I'm one and I love her to death for what she done for Amanda. She helped Amanda with that baby and brought life to it and I'm so proud of her and I love her to death."

Castro, who made a plea deal last week to spare himself the death penalty, was sentenced to life behind bars without the possibility of parole plus an additional 1,000 years.
