AKRON -- The family of a man gunned down outside a McDonald's restaurant over the weekend, is pleading for information.

John Lehman was taking the trash out to a dumpster when an unknown suspect confronted Lehman, shot him four times, and fled.

The shooting happened just before 11 p.m. at the McDonald's at 390 West Market Street.

Three coworkers called 911. While they heard the gunshots, they did not witness the shooting.

Akron Police have no suspects, and no leads in the shooting, just a vague description:  The suspect has been described as a a medium complexioned black male, 22 to 27 years old, 5'07" - 5'10", 150 - 180 lbs., with a moustache, and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

He was seen in a dark-colored SUV, possibly a Ford Expedition or a Cadillac Escalade with tinted windows. The vehicle was last seen traveling southbound on Valley Street towards Crosby Street.

McDonald's security cameras recorded the victim being shot, but the suspect was off screen, police say.

Monday, Lehman's uncle pleaded with the public for help finding his nephew's killer.

"It's very likely that more than one person knows what happened and who did this. These people need to look into their own hearts and think about how they'd feel, if it happened to someone they loved. This information needs to come out. We need to know what happened," James Lehman said.

Lehman's foster father, Terry Zimmerman, echoed the grief.

"John didn't deserve this. I can't imagine why this happened," Zimmerman said.

John Lehman's neighbors at an apartment building just a few blocks from McDonald's describe the man as kind and generous.

A rock and roll music buff, Lehman was someone interested in music and records, over getting into trouble.

If you have any information on this shooting, you are asked to contact the Akron Police Department, Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490; the U.S. Marshals Service at 1-866-4WANTED; or the Summit County Crimestoppers Inc. at 330-434-COPS.

Callers can remain anonymous.
