VATICAN CITY -- The Vatican has confirmed Pope Benedict will step down at the end of the month. His last day is set to be February 28th.
The Pope made the statement in Latin during a small canonization event saying he doesn't have the strength anymore.
Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger began his papacy in 2005.
The pontiff's statement said, "After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry."
Reportedly, this is only the second time the head of the Catholic church has stepped down.
