CLEVELAND-- 2012 nationwide health rankings are out and Ohio isn't doing so well.
Ohio took the 35th healthiest spot on the United Health Foundation's list - slightly better than its ranking of 36 last year.
The study took a look at about 24 different areas for each state and compared them all.
Out of those categories, Ohio only reached the top 10 once- getting that 10th spot for occupational fatalities.
Ohio ranked 47 out of 50 for pollution, and 43rd in 4 different areas including cancer and infectious diseases.
A big area of concern of Ohio is obesity. Ohio is ranked as the 38th heaviest state.
Since 1990, obesity rates have steadily climbed and with it, diabetes levels have also jumped.
Smoking is also a big issue. Ohio ranks 43 out of 50 states when it comes to people who smoke.
What's interesting is that less people smoke now than they did in 1990 but we're still smoking more than most other states.
So who took the top spots?
Vermont, Hawaii, and New Hampshire are the healthiest states.
Florida edges out Ohio at 34.
Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi are the least healthy.
The United Health Foundation says the overall picture for the US is mixed.
Americans are living longer, but with more chronic illnesses.
