Top 4 Super Bowl TV Deals (46" to 70")

CLEVELAND -- Yesterday on Ways 2 Save, it was all about TVs 22 inches to 43 inches.

Today, we crank up the savings and the screen size.

I've been hunting deals around the clocking, checking local store stock and combing every cheap avenue out there. It's clear you want quality and you want size. A huge thank you to Deal Angels Julia, Rachel and Ada who have helped me narrow down a list of hundreds of deals.

Beginning next month, TV prices go up and deals are scarce. Also, as stores deplete their older LCD stock with the new LED models, we'll see fewer deals.

This also marks the end of the 2012 stock because the 2013 models start to make their way to our stores soon. You won't hear me mentioning too many TV deals between now and October!

CLEVELAND -- First off, I'll have deals on TVs larger than 43 inches tomorrow. Today, I'm only doing 32 to 43 inches as prices are hottest on these sizes today.

The countdown to the big day is on and super-sized football often spells super-sized TV discounts. Over the last few years, this has changed as a time to snag a discount on TVs small through huge. This also marks the end of the 2012 stock as the 2013 models start to make their way to our stores.

Beginning next month, TV prices go up and deals are scarce. Also, as stores deplete their LCD stock with the new LED models, we'll see fewer deals.

Ohio may require replacement of old license plates

Written By kolimtiga on Selasa, 29 Januari 2013 | 21.08

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio may force motorists to replace their license plates after seven years.

Currently, drivers are required to replace plates only when the numbers and letters become unreadable. But a budget proposal from the Department of Public Safety would require replacement after seven years.

The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reports that the same proposal would also retire all red, white and blue bicentennial plates, along with the older gold-tinted plates, in December.

In a letter to Gov. John Kasich, Public Safety Director Thomas Charles said the seven-year limit on plates would address concerns by law enforcement agencies about the difficulty of reading rusted and faded letters and numbers.

The Department of Public Safety also is proposing a $10 fee to replace old plates.

Cleveland: Deadly police chase update scheduled this morning

Photo from the night of the police-involved shooting in which two people were killed.

CLEVELAND -- An update from city officials is expected this morning, in the case of a deadly police chase from November.

Mayor Frank Jackson, Public Safety Director Martin Flask and Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGrath are scheduled to give an update into their administrative review at 11 a.m. at Cleveland City Hall.

It is not yet known what details will be revealed.

On November 29, 2012, police fired 137 shots at two suspects in a police chase, killing them both.

Protesters Monday night claim that an autopsy report released Friday was intended to discredit the chase suspects before investigators gave their full report. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office disputes this claim, saying it is releasing the information based on public information requests from the media.

Cleveland Aquarium lowers prices on one-year anniversary

Written By kolimtiga on Minggu, 27 Januari 2013 | 21.08

CLEVELAND -- Since swimming to life one year ago, the Greater Cleveland Aquarium says they are lowering admission prices based on a successful first year.

Since the watery attraction first debuted on Jan. 21, 2012, officials say they reached their projected attendance goal as 400,000 visitors splashed inside. They have also accumulated more than 35,000 annual passholders.

"Because of such success we, as an organization, were able to pay off much of our debt accumulated during the construction and beginning stages prior to opening our doors," a press release indicates. "As a result, we are now able to (and happy to) permanently restructure our general admission rates to $19.95/adult and $13.95/child. With this change you will also see a lowered senior rate of $17.95, a lowered military rate of $17.95 and a lowered group rate of $15.95/adult and $9.95/child for groups of 15 or more."

When the aquarium first debuted many people took to social media to express their negative feelings about the admission prices, which were $21.95 for adults and $15.95 for children ages 2-12.

The one-year anniversary celebration of the Greater Cleveland Aquarium also brought the announcement of a brand new exhibit set to debut in February -- "Sea Monsters."

"This is a unique exhibit that brings extreme ocean animal adaptations to life, and it will be on display at The Greater Cleveland Aquarium from February 16 through April 14, 2013," the press release states. "This interactive display developed by Mote Marine Laboratory offers a glimpse into some of the fascinating 'monster' characteristics of some sea animals through hands-on educational panels."

The Greater Cleveland Aquarium, which is located in the FirstEnergy Powerhouse at Nautica in the Flats, is the only free-standing aquarium in Ohio with 35 exhibits in 10 different galleries.

Their attendance goal for 2013 is also 400,000 guests.

Cycling experts react to Lance Armstrong's interview

Written By kolimtiga on Sabtu, 19 Januari 2013 | 21.08

Jan. 14, 2013: Lance Armstrong's interview with Oprah Winfrey. (Photo by George Burns/Oprah Winfrey Network via Getty Images).

CLEVELAND -- Northeast Ohio has a budding cycling community, both recreational and competitive.

When the sport's greatest hero (and one of the greatest heroes of sports in general) fell from grace amid doping allegations, local cyclists tuned in to OWN to watch Oprah's exclusive interview with Lance Armstrong.

In the two part interview, Armstrong admitted for the first time that he used performance enhancing drugs.

"He said, 'Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.' So his one-word admission, but beyond that, he still didn't apologize. He still isn't remorseful," said Diane Lees.

Lees is a cycling journalist, known for her weekly radio show on WJCU 88.7 FM, 'The Outspoken Cyclist'.

She says Friday was the first day she really felt angry and upset by Armstrong.

"I don't know who's wanting the money back. It's be nice if he gave some reputations back," Lees said.

Robert Fernandez is a former competitive cyclist, who raced against Armstrong at the amateur level many years ago.

"He was an amazing athlete," Fernandez said.

Today Fernandez owns a sports marketing company in North Royalton, and also manages the Amateur Elite cycling team (a 100 % clean team) that is sponsored by the Cleveland Clinic.

Fernandez says he is looking at the good that Armstrong did through creating the Livestrong Foundation, a cause that is close to Fernandez's heart, since he has many people in his life who have battled cancer.

He also sees an opportunity for a rebirth of cycling, that does not involve illegal drugs.

"I would love to have our program continue and unearth those young children and give them the opportunity to race at the highest level, and do it clean," Fernandez said.

The Outspoken Cyclist's show on Lance Armstrong will air on 88.7 FM on Saturday, at 5:30 p.m.

Cleveland Police Chief weighs in on local vs. state gun laws

Written By kolimtiga on Jumat, 18 Januari 2013 | 21.08

CLEVELAND -- The City of Cleveland has a half dozen gun ordinances that are tougher than the state of Ohio laws, yet cannot be enforced.

In 2010, a Supreme Court ruling declared that Cleveland's home rule on gun laws should not trump the general laws for the state of Ohio.

Those ordinances include: Possession of Firearms by Minors, Possessing Deadly Weapons on Public Property, Possession of Certain Weapons at or About Public Places, Access to Firearms, Unlawful Conduct and Handgun registration.

Proponents of the local ordinances say they better address the current climate of gun violence in this urban city than laws that cover rural areas would.

"The cities, urban areas, know what they need as far as to maintain safety in the communities. For the state to say 'you can't do that,' it's the not the best way to do business in my opinion," said Chief Michael McGrath.

Cleveland Division of Police Chief Michael McGrath says for example, mandatory handgun registration is a tool police can use to connect the dots in crimes.

"It used to help us track weapons somewhat as far as if a person has their weapon stolen," McGrath said.

While Possession of a Firearm by a Minor may not be enforceable, there are other state laws that police can fall back on.

Chief McGrath supports background checks and purchases made through federally licensed dealers.

While he says that most of Cleveland's handgun issues are not related to ordinances, he's glad to see the national discussion on stopping gun violence.

"If we don't do something, will that keep the guns out of the thugs' hands? No. So we have to start somewhere," said Chief McGrath.

Investigator: Ch. 3 investigative team buys assault rifle

CUYAHOGA COUNTY -- As President Obama announced plans to ban assault rifles, a Channel 3 News undercover team bought an assault rifle at a local gun show, finding it just as easy as buying a bottle of beer.

"My first question would be, 'Why would you even need a rifle like this?'" said Yvonne Pointer, an anti-violence activist who runs a local support group for women who lost children to violence.

"Even if you're going to shoot a deer, I feel sorry for the deer that gets shot with that," said Pointer.

The Cleveland woman was referring to the Century Arms semi-automatic rifle that undercover WKYC Videographers Mike Leonard and Randy White purchased at the gun show held in Berea this past weekend.

White said the seller never asked if he was a felon or if he was ever committed to a mental institution. But the seller isn't required to ask those questions or do a background check because he was an individual selling guns, not a retailer.

The seller required that White only show him a driver's license.

One gun advocate said it was a shame people are using the massacre in Connecticut last month to try to reinstate a national ban on assault rifles and high-capacity ammunition magazines.

"It's not guns that are the problem. It's people," said the unidentified gun owner.

Channel 3 purchased the assault rifle for $1,500. Some firearms experts said we paid nearly double the normal price. With the big push for tougher gun laws, sellers were asking top dollar and customers at the gun show were willing to pay it.

Just days before the President announced his plans on gun control, a man who called himself Joe was walking the streets of downtown Cleveland with a loaded assault rifle.

"Any attempt to take this rifle away will be met with violence and any force that is necessary," he said.

Channel 3 News tried to talk with the NRA about our gun purchase, but no one ever called back.

The next sheriff of Cuyahoga County said he's not exactly sure what a sportsman would do with the type of weapon Channel 3 purchased.

"I personally wouldn't use it,"  said Captain Frank Bova.

Channel 3 News will turn the assault rifle over to the Sheriff's office. Bova said a report will be made and then the gun will be destroyed.

Ohio board OKs student restraint, seclusion policy

Written By kolimtiga on Rabu, 16 Januari 2013 | 21.08

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Board of Education has approved a policy on how educators seclude and physically restrain students in schools.

The Columbus Dispatch reports the rules in effect beginning next school year allow for students to be physically restrained or put in seclusion rooms only if they're a danger to themselves or others.

The plan is meant to ensure those tactics aren't used for a child's punishment or for the staff's convenience.

The board voted 12-4 to adopt the policy Tuesday. Previously, there was no such policy, and the Ohio Department of Education didn't oversee how seclusion rooms were used.

The plan had drawn criticism from schools that feared being overburdened with training, testing and paperwork.

Parents and advocates of special-needs children argued the policy could help protect youngsters.

Orrville: School district has 'gun-toting' teacher

ORRVILLE -- A Northeast Ohio school district makes the controversial decision to allow a teacher to carry a gun during class time....but this is not just any teacher.

In a unanimous vote last Thursday, the Orrville School Board agreed to allow high school science teacher Bill Yerman to carry a concealed weapon to class.

Yerman has been with the district 10 years. He is not only a teacher, but a Lawrence Township police officer by night.

"The hard part is coming to grips with the idea that there are kids bringing guns in schools. When we were kids, this would never have happened," School Board President Greg Roadruck said.

After the massacre at Sandy Hook elementary school, a number of educators here, who have conceal carry licenses, volunteered to bring their guns to school for security.

Because of of Yerman's peace officer training and experience, he was the logical choice.

While other districts debate whether to fight gun violence with guns, many parents and students join the school board in saying that this level of security is neccesary.

"If an officer has a gun, I'm all right with it," sophomore Shane Henson said.

"As far as putting it in someone's trustworthy hands, that would be safer then just having something in the classroom," said senior Trevor Kerr.

Yerman turned down an interview.

When he'll start bringing his gun to school is not known.

The board president says carrying the weapon concealed makes the most sense. It's better that an intruder not know who is carrying a gun, much like air marshals on planes.

Reports: Browns close to stadium name deal

CLEVELAND -- Various published reports are indicating the naming rights to Cleveland Browns Stadium may soon be sold.

The reports indicate the Browns are close to striking a deal with FirstEnergy for the company to put their name on the stadium.  There is no confirmation from either the Browns or FirstEnergy on the rumored deal.

FirstEnergy did release a statement that read in part:

"In Ohio, we've long championed Cleveland teams with prominent sponsorships at Browns Stadium, Progressive Field and Quicken Loans Arena. While we remain committed to partnering with local community leaders and businesses to make our communities attractive places to live and work, we have no new announcements regarding any major sponsorships at this time."

New owner Jimmy Haslam left open the possibility of selling naming rights to the stadium when he first took over the reins of the team last fall.

Browns Stadium has never had a corporate sponsor attached.

Oprah: Lance Armstrong admitted doping

AUSTIN, Texas --  Oprah Winfrey is confirming that Lance Armstrong came clean to her about his use of performance-enhancing drugs during their 2 1/2 hour interview Monday. She says the cyclist was "forthcoming" as she asked him in detail about doping allegations that followed him throughout his seven Tour de France victories.

Speaking on "CBS This Morning," Winfrey said she had not planned to address Armstrong's confession before the interview aired on her OWN network but, "by the time I left Austin and landed in Chicago, you all had already confirmed it."

Winfrey interviewed Armstrong at a hotel in downtown Austin. The session was to be broadcast on Thursday but Winfrey said it will now run in two parts over two nights because there is so much material.

Armstrong won every Tour from 1999 to 2005, but each of those titles was stripped last year as the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency released a massive report built around the testimony of former teammates. USADA accused Armstrong of masterminding a long-running and sophisticated doping operation on his teams.

The 41-year-old Armstrong vehemently denied the charges for years, and fiercely attacked his critics. But after losing his titles and being abandoned by corporate sponsors, he has changed course.

Toyota retakes global auto sales crown from GM

Written by
Associated Press

DETROIT  --  Toyota has dethroned General Motors as the world's top-selling automaker.

The Japanese company says it sold 9.7 million cars and trucks worldwide last year, although it's still counting. GM says it sold 9.29 million.

GM retook the crown in 2011 when Toyota's factories were slowed by an earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The disaster left Toyota dealers with few cars to sell. The company has since recovered.

GM is also contending with a stronger Volkswagen. It narrowly edged out the fast-growing German company for second place last year. VW says it sold a record 9.1 million vehicles.

GM was the top-selling automaker for more than seven decades before losing the title to Toyota in 2008.

"People are afraid of assault weapon bans," explained gun show attendee Dorian Foster. "There's been a run on ammunition the likes of which we've never seen before."

With demand so high, prices on some guns and ammuniction have more than doubled in recent months.

WKYC's Jim Donovan, ESPN 850's Grossi talk Browns coach

Written By kolimtiga on Sabtu, 12 Januari 2013 | 21.08

Written by
WKYC Web Staff

Jim Donovan, the radio voice of the Cleveland Browns and ESPN 850 sports analyst Tony Grossi discuss how the hiring of new head coach Rob Chudzinski will affect the team in 2013.

Chudzinski interviewed with three teams a year ago, but only the Browns were interested this year. Even after a second interview with Ken Whisenhunt, the Browns Jimmy Haslam and Joe Banner decided that Chudzinski was the right fit for this team moving forward.

Chudzinski, a native of Toledo, grew up a Browns fan and in his early years played in the back yard during the Browns game, pretending that they were in the Dawg Pound. Chudzinski has a passion for the Browns but it may have been his connection to Norv Turner who is rumored to become the next offensive coordinator that may have sealed the deal for Chudzinski.

One thing is for sure quarterback Brandon Weeden may feel a little easier after today. Chudzinski's offensive emphasizes the down field passing game which fits to Weeden's strengths as a quarterback.

The real question is on the other side of the ball. Chudzinski has worked around 3-4 defense more so than the 4-3 in his NFL career. However, Banner went on record stating that a new brand of hybrid defense has been starting to cause problems for offenses as of late. Banner says he feels that the team has the potential to achieve this new hybrid concept without effecting the talent on the defensive side of the ball.

Chudzinski is now the 14th head coach in Cleveland Browns history and he has already struck a chord with Browns fans hearts by talking about his pleasure for dog biscuits growing up. Can the homegrown Chudzinski bring the Browns back to relevance? Jim Donovan and Tony Grossi break down the hiring of Rob Chudzinski.

Cleveland Weather: Running for the records

This morning parts of Northeast Ohio are under a Dense Fog Advisory making for hazardous road travel. Visibilities will be reduced to quarter of a mile or less. This advisory should expire at 10 am this morning.

A Flood Watch will also go into a effect this evening and continue through late Sunday. Runoff from recent rainfall and additional rainfall forecast Sunday, along with the recent snow melt, will increase the chance of flooding during the advisory period. Low-lying areas and small streams are already experiencing high water.

Mild weather is expected today with plenty of sun and temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s. We will get very close to tying, if not, breaking records today.

Here is where the records stand for January 12th:

Cleveland ->  65 set in 1916

Akron/Canton -> 64 set in 1916

Mansfield -> 61 set in 2005

Saturday:  Partly sunny early, then mostly cloudy.  60-65

Saturday night:  Heavy rain moves in.

Sunday:  Rain.  Brisk wind.  Temps in the 50s in the very early morning, falling through the day into the low 40s

Monday:  Colder.  Mostly cloudy with a chance for flurries, especially east.  Mid 30s

Tuesday:  Mostly cloudy (some peeks of sun).  Mid 30s

Wednesday:  Partly sunny early, then mostly cloudy with scattered snow showers developing.  Mid 30s

Thursday:  Snow likely.  Low 30s, then falling  (This is the polar plunge we have been referencing for the last few days.  The timing of the coldest of the air is still in question.)

Friday:  Mostly cloudy.  Scattered snow showers.  20s

Browns hire Rob Chudzinski as head coach

Written By kolimtiga on Jumat, 11 Januari 2013 | 21.08

Written by
WKYC Web Staff

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns have hired Rob Chudzinski as their next head coach.

A press conference will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday morning to officially introduce Chudzinski as the 14th full-time Browns head coach.

Chudzinski, 44, was most recently the offensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers from 2011-2012.

He was born in Toledo, Ohio and is a lifelong Browns fan. He attended the University of Miami. Chudzinski was an assistant coach at his alma mater from 1994-2003.

Chudzinski was an assistant with the Browns. Back in 2004, he coached the tight ends. And from 2007-2008, he was the offensive coordinator.

Chudzinski is expected to bring former Chargers head coach Norv Turner with him to help with the offense.  Norv's son, Scott Turner, is also expected to join the Browns staff.

Chudzinski's offenses are best known for gaining yardage in big chunks.  He likes to attack in the passing game but also is aware that you must run the ball in the 4th quarter.  He can adapt his offensive scheme to fit any roster.

Chudzinski called the offensive plays for the last five games back in 2004 for interim head coach Terry Robiskie.

The Browns interviewed plenty of candidates for the position including:

  • Former Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt
  • Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton
  • Oregon head coach Chip Kelly
  • Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien.
  • Former Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone

Profile: Rob Chudzinski

CLEVELAND -- Former Panthers and Browns Offensive Coordinator Rob Chudzinski was hired as the 14th full time head coach of the Cleveland Browns late Thursday night.

The 44-year-old Toledo native grew up a Browns fan and attended St. John's Jesuit High School.

He played tight end at the University of Miami from 1986-1990 and was a three-year starter. He played on two national championship teams (1987, 1989), coached by the likes of Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson.

After earning his bachelor's degree in business administration in 1990, he served as a graduate assistant for the Hurricanes from 1994 to 1995 until he graduated with his M.B.A. in 1996.

Chudzinski was promoted from graduate assistant to tight ends coach in 1996. He was promoted again five years later to offensive coordinator in 2001, winning a NCAA national championship in his first year in that role.

Under Chudzinski, three University of Miami tight ends became first round NFL draft picks (Bubba Franks, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow Jr.). Other notable offensive players under Chudzinski who went on to the NFL include wide receiver Andre Johnson, running backs Frank Gore, Willis McGahee and Clinton Portis, tackle Bryant McKinnie and quarterback Ken Dorsey.

Chudzinski, or "Chud" as he has been nicknamed, received his first NFL coaching opportunity as a tight ends coach with the Cleveland Browns under Butch Davis in 2004. He was hired to help first round draft pick Kellen Winslow Jr. transition to the NFL.

When the 2004 season ended, Davis had resigned as head coach and Chudzinski was calling the offensive plays for the final five games under Interim Head Coach Terry Robiske.

Chudzinski was the tight ends coach for the San Diego Chargers on Marty Schottenheimer's staff from 2005 to 2006. He oversaw the breakout of Antonio Gates and coached him to some of the best statistical seasons of his career.

He returned to Cleveland in 2007 as offensive coordinator on Romeo Crennel's staff. The team went 10-6 that year and had one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL, featuring Pro Bowl performances from quarterback Derek Anderson, wide receiver Braylon Edwards, tight end Kellen Winslow Jr., left tackle Joe Thomas and fullback Lawrence Vickers.

After a disappointing 2008 season, Chudzinski was fired, along with the rest of the Browns coaching staff and general manager.

Chudzinski picked back up with the Chargers from 2009 to 2010 as tight ends coach/assistant head coach. When Chargers Defensive Coordinator Ron Rivera was named head coach of the Carolina Panthers, Chudzinski followed him to Carolina and became offensive coordinator.

Chudzinski's offense was built around quarterback Cam Newton, who became the first player in NFL history to pass for 4,000 yards and rush for 500 yards in a single season. Wide receiver Steve Smith had his first 1,000-yard season since 2008 and the running game ranked third and ninth in the league each of the last two seasons.

Chudzinski and his wife Sheila have two sons, Kaelan and Rian, and one daughter, Margaret.

Browns fans react to new head coach announcement

Written by
Associated Press

Jeremy Brevard/USA Today Sports

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns have hired Carolina offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski as their new coach.

The team will introduce Chudzinksi at a mid-morning news conference, but fan reaction is already coming in. Some fans say this has become an endless cycle of hiring and firing and many have a wait and see attitude. Some feel Pat Shurmur didn't get a fair chance. Chudzinski is a relative unknown compared to some of the other names the Browns reportedly pursued including Chip Kelly, Marc Trestman and Ken Whisenhunt. The move comes sooner than expected too for some fans.

Chudzinski first head coaching job comes with the team he loved as a kid. The 44-year old had two previous assistant coaching stints with the Browns in 2004 and 2007. He becomes Cleveland's sixth full-time coach since 1999.

Chudzinski, who grew up in Ohio and rooted for the Browns as a kid, interviewed with the team on Wednesday. He has spent the past two years working with Carolina working with quarterback Cam Newton.

The Browns have been searching for a coach since firing Pat Shurmur on Dec. 31 after a 5-11 season.

Who has the worst customer service

Written By kolimtiga on Kamis, 10 Januari 2013 | 21.08

Written by
WKYC Web Staff

CLEVELAND -- First off and most importantly I want to stress that while this piece is highly subjective and not a reflection of any views held by this news station or our parent company, there was a process in determining who made this list.

Over the past 12 months, I've collected your complaints surrounding different companies and in all cases, I reached out to those companies. The companies you'll find below have all been contacted at least three times by phone over the course of a 12-month period, at different times of the day. In no case did I speak to the same customer service agent twice. Again, this is purely my opinion in my experience as a bargain hunter and someone who contacts at least a two dozen different companies every week.

1) Saveology

• Average phone wait time (for deal redemptions): 5 to 35 minutes

• English proficiency: Depends on the agent and the call center the company is using

• Overall Mood of Customer Service Agent: Very chipper

• Knowledge of customer service agent: Extremely poor

Despite great prices, this internet-based daily deal website has the worst customer service of any company I've come into contact with in a long time. While I've only had 2 to 3 choice encounters with the people at Saveology, I've received more complaints about them from our viewers than any other company I've ever profiled. Emails from customers are not returned or are "lost" in some cases. Customers who speak to customer service agents are often up-sold on other products and customer service agents (at least on the phone during a 2012 deal redemption) were completely ill-informed about their products, deals and promotions. I've also banned Saveology from future Ways 2 Save deal mentions based on some of the experiences our viewers have encountered.

2) [Insert Cell Phone Company Here]

• Average phone wait time: 15 to 35 minutes

• English proficiency: Depends on the hour

• Overall mood of customer service agent: Completely disinterested

• Knowledge of customer service agent: Below average

There are too many awful experiences among our viewers to mention. Sprint seems to come up the most from our viewers. I used to think T-Mobile was a lot better than the other companies, but they appear to have moved some operations to the Philippines as well over the last 12 to 15 months and the agents are pleasant, but completely robotic. Customer service agents have developed terrible habits of putting customers back on hold for excessive periods of time while they investigate. Even after navigating the brutal automated phone menus, you still have to offer up the same information once you actually reach a human being in most cases.

3) Sirius XM

• Average phone wait time: 25 to 55 minutes

• English proficiency: Low to Medium

• Overall mood of customer service agent: Not great

• Knowledge of customer service agent: Good

Why? On the numerous calls I made to customer service, I waited at least 20 minutes and as long as 55 minutes on one occasion. Customer service is absolutely brutal unless you indicate that you would like to cancel your service. The cancelation department is back in the U.S. and they are the polar opposite of the individuals (in the Philippines I believe) at the regular customer service number who seem completely disinterested. One customer service rep I spoke to on the cancelation line acknowledged the awful customer service and even told me: "Always mention you're going to cancel your service so you'll get through to the U.S. department where the agents are better educated and easier to work with."

4) U.S. Airways

• Average phone wait time: 15 to 55 minutes

• English proficiency: Good

• Overall mood of customer service agent: Variable

• Knowledge of customer service agent: Average

Based on my personal experiences, I could have supplied several different airlines in this spot, but based on your feedback and new commentary from The American Customer Satisfaction Index, U.S. Airways is in the lead. From high ticket cost to poor customer service, this airline has improved from last year, but not enough. Like American Airlines, which saw an inordinate number of canceled flights, U.S. Airways does not bring the winning combination it needs to progress. Personally, I think United Airlines could easily be in this slot too. My most recent phone call involved a 35-minute wait at a time when I was calling to cancel a flight affected by Hurricane Sandy. United was waiving all cancelation fees and the agent (in another country) was completely unaware of the policy. She had to put me on hold for another 15 minutes to "check." It's sad when I know more about an airlines' cancelation policy than they do.

5) Bank of America

• Average phone wait time: 10 to 25 minutes

• English proficiency: Solid

• Overall mood of customer service agent: Depends

• Knowledge of customer service agent: Average

According to Business Insider, this is Bank of America's worst customer service rating in over a decade. The reputation of the bank is in even worse shape at the start of this year due to proposed fees, long wait times on the phone and continuous fee tests that plague different parts of the country. Bank of America was forced to eliminate a $5 debit card fee they recently proposed following widespread customer backlash. Citibank, on the other hand, is slightly improved this year in my opinion with what appears to be fewer India-based representatives and additional U.S. call center representatives.

Cleveland: Homeowners skeptical of foreclosure settlements

Written By kolimtiga on Rabu, 09 Januari 2013 | 21.08

CLEVELAND -- Ten major banks have settled with federal regulators over mishandled foreclosure filings.

The banks have agreed to pay $8.5 billion to wrongfully foreclosed homeowners.

But many people who qualify for the settlement don't see it as an answer to problems with their lender.

Some homeowners cite miscommunication, payments missing from bank statements and late notifications as part of a greater problem.

Those eligible are people who filed for foreclosure in 2009 or 2010 with Bank of America, Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, US Bank and others.

Homeowners with money coming to them will get a letter in the mail by the end of March.

Ways 2 Save: $279 laptop, fireplace and heaters

CLEVELAND -- Wow! I got a lot of hate email yesterday.

Despite my numerous mentions that the $299 laptop I hunted down yesterday would sell out extremely quickly, many of you were (rightfully) disappointed you couldn't get in on the deal.

I spent the last 12 hours searching alongside Deal Angels Katie, Rachel and Ada and we found one for $20 less, meeting the same specs, with Windows 7 (yesterday's had Windows 8). This is the lowest price we'll see for months on a model with these specs.

And, on the home heating front, today is one of the top days of the year to practically steal an electric fireplace. I have the two top deals (in terms of brands, style, quality and popularity), followed by space heaters that perform in a big way at a small price.
